Shaun vs. 100

Shaun, our friend Noel, and I went last Saturday to an open casting call for Deal or No Deal and 1 vs. 100 in Los Angeles. We got there shortly after 10am and got in line (behind 4,500 of our now closest friends) which stretched about three blocks away from where they were actually doing the casting.

Once in the building we still had to wind back and forth in line before they broke us up into groups of 10. Here is Shaun and Noel figuring out what their most embarrassing moment was and what their most dangerous and daring feat has been. We decided "riding an ostrich" only counts if it's a real one. :)

Here's our view from upstairs right before we get our 20 seconds with the casting people to convince them that we're exciting and interesting. Not the easiest thing to do after standing in a slow moving line for four hours. It shows how close to the end of the line we were that the building is only 1/2 full at this point. The casting person sent me to be tested as a mob member and sent Shaun and Noel to be tested as a contestant. They both did well on the 30 question quiz since they knew that hummingbirds can fly backwards and that a bobbin is used on a sewing machine. They both got a call back for Wedn. at 2pm. We weren't done with the whole process until 4:30pm. Yep, 2 hours of driving and 6 1/2 hours of waiting for 20 seconds at a chance to win some money. I have a new respect for those chosen as game show contestants.

Shaun and Noel showed up Wedn. with the other 130 people that had the same call back time and did well enough to be part of a group of 30 that got to be mock contestants. They did that brilliantly too and both were chosen to be in the group of 10 that had 5-10 minute interviews on camera. All that and then they were just sent home. We're guessing that, other than their group of 10, there is about 50-60 other people from other call backs that also got to the same point. Taping starts on Nov. 20th, so we should know around then if they're one of those chosen as a contestant.

Even if nothing comes of it, we can now impress others with our knowledge that the letters YKK are on a zipper and that Lake Tahoe used to be called Lake Briggs.
