Demolition...

Hey everyone,
We had quite a full week of Demo, Dogs, and Disneyland... enough that I've had to split the pictures into three different sections, so keep reading after this. We had previously had the haz-mat team clear out everything down to the studs, so this is how demo progressed over a couple of days:

The lot looks huge now that it's down to the dirt. It's amazing to start imagining where the new house will be since it just seems so big, which I suppose it should since it's more than doubling the square footage.

The neighbor from across the street came over and said that he never thought he'd see just dirt there again. It was that way when he moved in in 1960 as a boy and remembers waking up to the cows on the lot mooing. We have no plans to replace the cows. :) The interesting part is that there was no metal mesh, rebar, or anything found in the concrete when they ripped it up. Just concrete on dirt was it! It makes us feel really good about our decision not to tie into the existing foundation AND we were able to dump the concrete for free since it was 'clean'. So cool!

The next step is the new foundation, but we're in the midst of possibly changing from wood framed walls to ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) walls which are thicker, but make the house more energy effecient, better sound-proofing, and more earthquake resistant. As soon as we figure that out then we move forward again.
